Now then,
This is my first post on this site, so apologies if this is in the wrong place....
The two main methods for testing an edge I have seen are:
-Running the blade down a wet thumbnail (seems slightly dumb)
-And running the ball of the thumb downthe blade (seems absolutely retarded!)
I am relatively new to straight razors, but I have been sharpening knives for years and the test I have always used is:
Stroke your thumb across the blade not with, that way it is near impossible to cut yourself. (in case I am being unclear I mean scrape your thumb with the blade, not slice) The more resistance you get from the blade the sharper it is.
I just can't run my thumb down the blade it makes me cringe and shiver too much, I've spent too long teaching myself not to run body parts along blades! So could any of you tell me if it's the best method?
The method I use running the thumb across the blade, will this damage the edge as a razor is a lot finer than a knife?
Does anyone else think the "slicing method" seems stupid?
Hope I can get some opinions and alternatives on this.
Cheers
David
