Sanguine.......Buy a waterstone or a new razor?

I currently have a cheap 12 quid razor (Sanguine it says on the blade, if this means anything to anyone I would be pleased for some opinions, as i have no comparison).

It shaved well when I first got it but is going dull. I have made 3 paddle strops with balsa and have some diamond compound on its way, perhaps this will keep it going.

I am really skint at the moment, so my question is do I spend £50 on a Norton 4k/8k waterstone, or spend the £50 on a new razor?

I've heard a fair bit on here about Wapi's (not even going to attempt to spell it). How much razor can £50 buy me?

I am not bothered about twiddly bits all over the blade, infact I would prefer a simple razor with no frills.

So please all opinions greatfully received.

The Wapi I just bought on ebay from stamps222
went for $17 plus shipping. I don't know
how much it would cost to get to you. It doesn't
come shave ready, so you would have to
get it honed or buy the Norton 4k/8k and do it
yourself. Mike_ratliff was offering shave
ready Wapi's for about $40. Again, that was
the price for the US, I don't know if he'd
ship to you. He may be out of them right
now, but you could check with him.

I personally would buy the stone and learn to use
it. That way you could maintain your own
razors and not have to pay to have them honed.
After a few times of not having to have it
honed you've already paid for the stone. You may
be able to get the stone and Wapi for what
you're looking to spend.

I can't give much advice on your current razor or what you should do.

i can tell you however, to keep an eye out on BST £50 will buy you a couple excellent shave ready straights.

wow a razor with sanguine written on it? Thats kind of grim.....

Priority mail flat rate envelope is $11 so getting a razor from US shouldn't be too expensive. Norton is very versatile hone, having 4k and 8k sides, but just for touch up you may do quite well with one smaller and cheaper hone. if i were you i'd first see what would the pasted balsa do and decide then. unless of course you're itching for a hone or another razor.
