Hello all,
I just joined today, though I've been lurking for some time. Kudos to everyone who has contributed to this amazing site. I find myself drawn to it when procrastination seems the way to go over serious work. God bless you all.
I have only recently become interested in straight razor shaving. I currently live in Kawasaki, Japan and have been practicing with a disposable straight made by the KAI company. It's not nearly sharp enough I imagine as it has been catching and skipping on against and across the grain passes. But, I figure at the very least they have helped me get form down (?).
My main question is this: I've been eying the "Classic Black Straight Razor Set" over at Vintage Blades LLC (with the pre-honed option of course), but I'm wondering what advantage would I get out of dropping the extra $100 to get the "Ebony Silver Steel Straight Razor Set?" The Silver Steel looks more impressive, to be sure, but as a newbie will I be gaining something with the Silver Steel that would be noticeably missing with the Classic Black?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. It's good to be here.
John
