Yet Another First Shave
The standard seems to be a post about your first shave, so I thought I'd join in. I bought a wapi from ebay and had Mike sharpen it, just got it yesterday so gave straight shaving a go today. Stropped it up on leather and tried the HHT, since it looked like fun. Sharp!

Started with my normal DE shaving routine as well as all of my old equipment (well, I bought the bowl at Longs last week, but that's because my old mug broke). I know, the picture looks like an advertisement for C&E, but it's what I've got for the moment. I decided to forgo the proraso pre-shave this time. Shaved right after shower as I always had best results this way, even when I towel-prep my face.
The shave itself wasn't so bad. I did a two pass shave, nicked a couple of times, gave myself some razor burn in a couple spots, but not as horrible as I thought. Gave a shave about as close as my two-pass DE shaves, actually closer in some places and less close in others. I want to practice again tomorrow, but I should probably rest my face (and my beard grows slowly). I think my cream may have been a bit dry as the razor didn't slide well, but I think there are a lot of variables I don't recognize since it was my first shave.
Can't wait for the next try! It's also fun to window shop all of the pretty razors I can't afford. I want to try making scales myself and learn how to hone as well, but all in good time. First I have to get the shaving part down!

hello,
bravo for your equipment,
if your cream looks dry, try to put just a little bit oil( sweet almond oil for example),
it will surely slide better,
bye

Welcome aboard!
And with you being in Hawaii, you should have easy access to some exotic woods for rescaling if you ever go down that route!
