Neosporin/Bacitracin/etc.

Newbies,

Before trying this, beware if you are allergic to any antibiotics, check with your doctor if you any doubt.

That being said:

I have found that Neosporin ointment, or Bacitracin, or any of the generic equivalents are pretty miraculous treatments for shaving cuts.

Without treatment, my cuts are highly visible for at least 4 days. And, they almost always leave a scar that is visible.

Recently I was reworking an old razor and did a shave test and OUCH!! got a nasty cut on my jawline. Didn't stop bleeding for at least 15 minutes. Forget styptic pencils, I used direct pressure with a large piece of gauze.

I applied the "Walgreen" version of Neosporin ointment, with the petrolatum base, real thick, and put a large knee bandage over it. This occurred in the evening.

The next day, the cut had closed up and was barely visible. Two days later it was no longer visible.

It is now completely healed (2 weeks later) and NO SCAR.

I highly recommend this stuff, it is extremely effective.

I, too, use neosporin (or the equivalent) on my shaving cuts and it really speeds up the healing process. The cuts are gone within a day or two but look better within an hour or so. Good stuff!

If you are allergic to antibiotics, a great way to reduce scarring is to use vaseline. Petroleum jelly will keep the cut moist and that's the key factor in reducing the scarring. Speaking of which, polysporin/neosporin are antibiotics added to a petroleum jelly base.

Vitamin e oil.....

Ditto on the neosporin. Redness and swelling are eliminated quickly.

Definitely second that patreoleum jelly works wonders as well. I had a really nasty cut on my actual lip going down about 1/2" that was SURE to leave a scar - especially since it was always re-opening when I would eat food and chew.

A thing of the past with daily patroleum jelly.

I third for the Petroleum Jelly. Works for boxers/footballers/rugby players and works for me \o/

If you are allergic to Aloe Vera then disregard this. If not, buy a plant or 2 and keep them healthy. I can't say I cut my self often because that wouldn't be the case, but when I do it's usually a nice one. If it's a nice one cut the plant leaf and take some of the jelly/sap and put i on the cleaned cut. The jelly/sap is thick enough to stop or hold the bleeding like petroleum based products. It doesn't leave a mark that is noticeable after a day or two.

Oh and the plants will be okay, unless of course you cut yourself badly everyday! In that case buy 5 or 6.
