Hi all
I am in the need of some help. What kind of grind is best, easyest to shave with? What is the concave grind? Not able to find a new razor with hthat grind. I am looking to get a old razor, but what kind of grind and size is good? A 3/8 hollow or a 7/8 concave grind?

They're all good Dino. It just depends on what suits your technique and stubble the best.
Test shave with them all and find what you like personally. Some of the guys on here are good enough to send razors for you to try out.
The only condition is that you dont hone them! :D

The most common to be found are 5/8 full hollow razors. They're as good a place to start as any. A 6/8 is a little bigger, but still manuverable. You can't go wrong there either. In the end, you'll want to try a bunch of different razors, sizes, grinds, etc. and see what you like. Me, I like them all ;)

I have started with a 5/8 hollow ground and it works wonderfully. As jnich noted, there seems to be an abundance of 5/8 around, especially in B/S/T.

The hollow grind and "concave" grind are the same.
There are really only two kinds of grind for a straight razor; wedge and hollow (or concave). A wedge is just a triangle. Hollow means metal has been removed from the two surfaces that meet at the cutting edge, which makes honing a bit faster, and makes the razor lighter (this is good for some bad for others). There are also subdivisions of hollow grind; "1/4 hollow", "1/2 hollow" and "full hollow". "1/4 hollow" is very close to being a wedge (really no difference performance wise), "full hollow" is the lightest thinnest blade possible (but what works best for you is anyone's guess)
I would recommend that you try a 5/8 "full hollow" ground razor and a 7/8 "1/4 hollow". This will give you a great reference point for where you should be headed in future razor acquisitions. Post a wanted add in the B/S/T forum with what you'd be willing to spend before going to a custom maker though, some really nice razors out there for a lot less than a custom that may not suit your face in the end.
