Should I buy this?
I have been offered a used 2 1/2" Tony Miller Horeshide Strop with genuine linen backing. It is the old style, but the vendor assure me that it is in very good condition. He is asking $105 for it including shipping to the UK. The shipping cost represents about $17 of the asking price.
Would this be a good buy or should I just buy the new 3" latigo?

You might want to look at Tony's new strops. The last time I looked his new Artisans Strops with linen weren't that much. Even with 17$ for shipping they were under $100. His site www.thewellshavedgentleman.com should be back open tomorrow. It might be worth a check

For that price you could buy a brand new strop from Tony directly. Maybe the experts would be better to chime in here, but it's really up to your preference.
EDIT: Looks like Bob beat me to it...man I'm a slow typer. :)

wow thats a really high price i know tonys products are high grade but that vendor is trying to make a killing from 1 sale i would deal directly with tony personally

I thought it was quite a high price for a used strop, but had no idea what a horse hide strop would retail for new.
Think I'll stick with new and get the 3" latigo plus a practice strop. Thanks :)

I think you will be very happy with this decision. :tu

I'm sooooooo impressed with the Legendary Tony Miller.
I just checked my e-mails and found he had sent me a personal e-mail regarding my post. How cool is that? :D
The man is a total gentleman! (I doft my hat to you Sir)
Anyway, to cut to the chase. I have responded to his e-mail by informing him that I would like to order the 3" Artisan with handles in red latigo and a practice strop. I hope he doesn't mind, as his shop front is not yet open and I have no desire to offend him or intrude on his personal time with business matters.
I couldn't resist and his personal touch has instilled me with total confidence.
Thank you Tony.:tu

My post to Black Beard was to clarify original pricing on my Horsehide strops over the past year, not to try and steer him from his possible deal.

^ Absolutley.
Nothing but excellent help :tu
To clarify further, the item I was offered was not from a SRP forum member.
