Problem with New Razor

Hello Everyone,

I am new here but have been observing and really appreciate all the advice and support on the site.

I recently bought a new Thiers-Issard 6/8 and purchased the honing service from Classic Shaving. I noticed this morning that there is a very small nick out of the blade near the toe -- there is also inconsistency in the metal around the nick. I didn't notice the nick until today, but I did notice the "roughness" in the metal about a week ago.

Is it possible that I purchased a new razor with a manufacturing defect? I am aboslutely positive that the razor has touched nothing but the strop and my face, so I do not think that I caused the nick.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? -- Should I send it back to Classic Shaving? -- send it back in for repair? -- try to fix the nick myself?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been making steady progress in learning how to shave with the razor, but I am now convinced that the cuts I have been suffering daily are from this growing nick in the blade.

I would contact them & I'm sure they will resolve the problem for you .They are an excellent company to deal with.Paul

Well, being as I sharpen them, I normally look them over for defects, but considering the TI's quality lately, that doesn't mean I couldn't have missed one. On the other hand, I test shaved with it as well and didn't notice it. I continue to be a little disappointed that people post this kind of stuff here without going to the vendor first. I simply don't understand it. If I bought a shirt from Macy's and it wasn't what I expected, I would go to Macy's first, not the New York Times. This is not a slam on you Paul and I can tell you have only the best of intentions. Let me know what you decide and I'll be glad to loan you a shaver while you're sending the razor back and forth.

Classic Shaving Customer Service has always been excellent and I would recommend you speak with them. They will normally have you send in the razor for inspection and if a defect, I have never seen them not replace one for a customer.

Thank you for the reply. The thing is that if I bought a shirt from Macy's, I would not what to expect, but I do not know what to expect with a straight razor (I am a newbie in the newbie corner). I am pretty sure that the nick was not in there when I received it, but I am also pretty sure that I did not hit the razor on anything -- I have been very careful. But seeing as how I have been working with it for about two weeks, I would place the burden on me as the one who has been handling it for the last two weeks. Are nicks something that can be the result of manufacturing, or is it much more likely that I caused the damage myself without knowing it.

I have seen nicks happen just from closing the razor into the handle. You never know. I usually notice them when I hone one as they will scratch the strop. Unless a micro nick, I would also notice it when shaving. Usually an ouch. In any case, I'll be happy to take a look at it and see if I can fix it up for you. Send me a pm if you need my address. One thing is that when they are there, you usually know it right away.

The main thing is to get you shaving, so let me know if you need a razor in the mean time.
