Honing service question.

I just bought three vintage blades on ebay two came in a lot described as "ERN 421 WALD GERMANY and THE PRINCE'S OWN (etched on blade) made by Frederick Reynolds Sheffield England. Nice clean razors w/ nice handles." Pictures yeilded no indication of nicks etc, also bought " Refurbished Wostenholm Pipe 9/16 Spike Point Straight Razor" according to the description this razor has been honed and stropped, in addition to these three straight razors I have my first vintage razor bought earlier this year and have used it with decent results. I'm thinking that three if no all four will need to be professionally honed and I was wondering if anyone had any kind of deal for honing multiple blades. I would ask my girlfriend's father as he was the one who honed my first razor but I'm not sure if he fully understands the difference between honing a straight razor verses his (razor sharp) carving knives. Don't get me wrong he really knows his stuff as far as tools, and wood working and all that. The guy owns a woodcraft store so maybe I could get him to get me a deal on a Norton stone.

Anyway the big question, is anyone offering any special deal on honing multiple blades?

Think about it this way. Will it take less time to hone the 4 razors you send as opposed to 4 people sending one razor each? I don't think so. Its not like your buying a retail item and then buying in quantity. But if you do find someone who will give you a break let us know. Some of us could probably get a real deal sending 20 or 30 razors each.

I agree with BigSpendur - unfortunately it does take four times as long to sort 4 razors out as one time-unit for one razor. Actually it's generally longer as with four razors you will often get three white hats and one black hat and, if you're unlucky, a real bandit! I have been asked this before and repsonded the same way - it's not being awkward, just pragmatic.

I guess I asked because in the "read this first" thread it talks about where to have your razor honed and in some or one of the providers' price includes return shipping so wouldnt it be cheaper in postage to send one box w/4 razors than four boxes seperate. I realize that these folks who do this are exceptionally skilled and take their time on their work and that more blades means more man hours. And whats this with white and black hats?

White and Black hats is just a term that has been used to describe blades that are easy to sharpen and those which are a b***h!

White = good
Black = b***h

I offer a small discount on honing multiple blades, just because it saves me trips to the post office... What with gas prices and all...
