Advantage: looks really cool!
Disadvantage: Looks reallly cool. Makes you buy yet another razor...
It's aesthetics! No other reason needed. The only exception might be when the scalloping flows into the shank, at which point it can help with the grip.
Blades with worked backs are just so cool. Maybe someone should post pics.
