A return of straight shaving

After sending my carbon steel off for sharpening as of May 30th, straight shaving made its return today (June 27th). I still believe that I have a lot to learn about getting a proper shave with a straight. Took a few practice swipes at the cheeks and already the straight is doing things that the super speeds can not do and those terrible cartridge razors could never even think of doing. I have a three year old at home so I can not afford to spend hours in the bathroom learning the facial yoga all at once. I am going to have to go at this bit by bit, going to be slow going but I believe I will get there. I did manage to draw blood the first time out as I learned not to bang the blade against my skin rather to place the blade there gently. My pop still thinks that I have taken leave of my senses, he uses as Proctor and Gamble Fusion Phenom. The Mrs has not yet commented at all on the straight.

Going slow is the best way. It is the way Lynn taught me one part of the face at a time get it down then do a little more till your there:tu

I was one of those people who just wasn't patient enough to do it that way. Fortunately for me I took to it like a duck to water. 2 months in and I can get BBS all the time and with no nicks, but it still takes me 30 minutes to get that quality of shave.

I had expected it to take me up to 8 months to get there, but I'm not complaining.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter how long it takes to crack str8 shaving. The important thing is to enjoy the ride, as eventually everything will just drop into place. The sense of being part of a community using str8's is also great!

Enjoy the journey and don't hurry it. It took me more months than I care to admit before I got a BBS shave (OK, it was 6 months). And, it took me more time than I care to admit before I moved past my cheeks (OK, it was about 6 weeks).
The important thing is that you have decided to be a part of a group that carries on a lost art. Glad to have you back in the fold.
