I bought a dovo razor from straight razor design, the thing ripped at hairs and didn't really go that well, could still feel hairs once i'd shaven that particular area.
I ended up going back to the replaceable blade straight i've been using to finish up.
If it was shave ready from SRD, it was definitely sharp. Did you try stropping before using it the first time? If so, you may have rolled the edge.
If not, hopefully it's just technique. Maintaining a ~30 degree angle and using no pressure are paramount. I suspect you would have some of the technique down since you're using a disposable straight now. However, a "real" straight has a much different feel than a machine sharpened blade. It may just take a little while to get used to it.
If in doubt, contact SRD. They are good guys and will help sort it out.
Try strapping it on leather a couple of dozen times and see if that improves the shave.
If it doesn't, keep working on your beard prep and your shaving techniques. Well, even if it does, keep working on those. :)
no i didn't strop it, but i'll try the prep and strop .
Only you can define what shave-ready is an when your razors are shave-ready.
Strop it a few laps, I personally do 40-50, and try it.
Concentrate on technique.
Having dealt with SRD in the past,shave ready razors,while honed properly still need to be stropped IMO.
You didn't state what your pre-shave prep was. Depending on the type of beard you have-you might need to change it. My beard is extremely coarse, and even with properly honed and stropped shave ready razors-I can't get the whiskers soft enough without a hot shower followed by more hot towels. No hot shower= an irritating shave.

Strop for 30-50 laps just before each and every shave. Not the night before either.
My beard is not a coarse one, i usually shave after hot shower, maybe it's the brush i use some coles thing, lather not thick enough?
i use proraso in the bowl.
