I guess it's time to give an introduction :)

Hey guys, my name is Andrew, and I am 24 years old. I actually started shaving with a DE about 6 months ago because I have really curly hair, and was prone to ingrown hairs.

I have a Merkur Classic, Classic HD, and a Futur. I have used a superlather of Williams soap and The Real Shaving Co Sensetive Skin cream.

I wanted to get something closer, and wanted to enjoy my shave more, so I thought it would be proper to try the straight razor.

I didn't want to drop a lot of coin at first because the DE is great in my opinion, and if I didnt like it, I wouldnt me out much. I decided to try using one of the Dovo SS Shavettes at first. I have had it for 2 weeks now, and have had amazing results. I wanted to get as close to a SE shave as I could get, so I use the the black insert with the long Dovo DE blades. I have been extremely impressed.

I figured I would start with a Shavette because I got a shave from a barber, and he used one. I believe that in NY, the barbers need to change the blades with each customer. This thing is amazing in my opinion. Yes, I slashed my face at first, but there is a learning curve with any SE shave.

So yes, I love the damn thing to death, and will continue to shave SE. I will be purchasing a nice Dovo blade soon because I feel that this is the absolute best shave for me.

Kewl! I have been shaving a bit longer than you. I used to use those plastic safety razors for years. I finally got tired of the razor just bouncing along the beard with out really cutting the whiskers off smoothly. I graduated to a very nice twin handle that was heavy enough to prevent the bouncing. However, two things led me to the straight. First, there were some areas on my face that the twin couldn't reach no matter how much I contorted my face. The second reason was because the sharpness was inconsistent for the safety blades. There were wide variances in the sharpness of new ones, even with nice Merkur blades. I quickly found out that the straight razor gave me consistent sharpness each and every shave (grand total of 7 today). It's like having a very nice, new blade for each shave without adding to landfills with materials that won't biodegrade!

Um....Plastic razors? I dont think so. Steel DE razors are what I normally used.

Glad to hear you have good results with the shavette. I'm not familiar with this type of razor and the various inserts, but there are other people who are using it sometime (or most of the time).
Which Dovo are you getting for a regular straight - have you decided yet?

Welcome, glad you are having such great results with your shavette. I sometimes use a Feather Artist Club that uses disposable blades and has the weight, feel and appearance of a straight. It saves me a little stropping time on hurried mornings. However, nothing quite compares to the feel of a straight shave with a blade that you have honed and stropped. Guess it is a feeling of accomplishment as much as anything.
