blade not flat?

hello everyone,

I'm just starting out, and am really trying to get this thing sharp on my own, but one thing that is worrying me is that the blade of my dovo, does not seem to lie flat on my hone. If you were to imagine the blade as a square it seems that when flat, only three points of the square touch the hone. ex. if the spine is flat only one side of the blade touches, or if the two sides of the blade are flat, then one side of the spine seems to be lifted off. Making the blade "rock" a bit when just resting on my hone. Is this a problem, or am I just neurotic.

I would really appreciate any help with this issue.

Are you certain your hone is flat? I would double check that. You can also check the razor against a flat countertop to see if it acts the same way.

If it is indeed warped, all hope may not be lost. It depends on how bad it is and if you can acheive a good bevel.

I recently had to return two Dovos because the blades were warped.

If your hone is lapped flat, then most likely it is the razor blade itself. I would suggest that you contact the vendor you purchased them from and inquire about a refund/replacement.

Dealing with a EBay special that may be warped is one thing, but a brand new razor should definitely NOT be warped.

I agree with seraphim 100% , i also have returned new dovos because they werent flat, unless you have a very thin coticle like half an inch its almost imposible to get a good edge from one.
I recently also went to the art of shaving store and checked out the thiers izzard razors that they are selling for $105, they had 3 on display and two were madly warped....towards the tip they just went in other direction,i told the manager and he made me feel i was crazy, he could swear that they were perfect and shave ready...than i followed to touch the edge with my thumb...he freaked out...it was dull...he told me it wasnt...i told him you couldnt shave somebody with this...he told me you could....i just left very very sad and disapointed.....
But getting back to the point...yes, i have seen a few new razors that have warps in them and if this is the case you should and could get a new one in perfect condition as a replacement.
