SRP is probably the safest place to buy there is. Everyone here has a reputation to protect in order to stay in good standing with his/her peers. BTW have you PM'd them to ask questions and establish a working dialogue? Are they participating members(do they post regularly)? If you are truly hesitant to buy from an individual maybe you should try a vendor instead.
Concur with Nun! All the sellers in the classifieds have reputations to keep. The last thing they want is to essentially be blacklisted. Most will bend over backwards to help you. Of those I have dealt with they really aren't selling in the classifieds to make a living. Rather, they have something they no longer need and are offering it at a very reasonable price. :tu
Well, you really don't have an absolute guarantee, that's just how it is. It's the same as with any other transaction you conduct online - you exercise your own judgment as it's your money and you are faced with the consequences.
Vendors usually have more of a track record, but that's about it. Ultimately if you run into a problem you have pretty much the same tools to resolve it, no matter of whether it's a 'vendor', or a member.
If you are not comfortable with conducting business online, your only other option is to find a local store where you can see the actual items in person. There are occasionally members who are restricted to only this option.
I personally have not had a single negative experience buying and selling on any of the shaving forums, but I know of a few of people who had.
Well, its the old adage, buyer beware or like we say on the watch forums, buy the seller not the item.
I would be looking for a track record from the seller.
I don't believe you can access sold items like you could on the old classifieds. Typically, I look at the seller's post count/reputation in the main sections of the forum (though by now I recognize most of the regulars).
There is a feedback system in the classifieds, but it doesn't seem to get much use.
I agree that it is a good idea to contact the sellers if you are unsure; that's always a good first step.
I would also like to add that I have never had a negative experience on SRP either, be it buying or selling, and I've been rather active in both the old B/S/T and the new classifieds.
You may want to give the seller some time to respond. I normally expect to hear back from the other party within 24 hours. This is a hobby and not a full time job for virtually everybody here, and even during the weekend razors are lower priority than family & friends.
Somebody needs to realign their priority structure. That's for sure!
