Patchmonkey,
In my opinion you will have to utilize a hone long before a couple of years go by. Yes you can maintain a well sharpened edge for a while with a quality hone but depending on how often you shave, how many razors you use etc... this will not keep the razor sharp into perpetuity. Given the choices you list in you post, I would opt for the norton combo as this is more bang for you buck, followed by a good quality polishing stone such as the Chinese 12K instead of the spyderco. The cost for the Chinese 12K is only about $35.00 US currency. It is a natural stone and gives outstanding results. Please bear in mind that with all of the stones you have listed including the Chiinese 12K that I mentioned, each of them will need to be lapped (flattened). I hope this helps a little.
Thanks Dean, that helps. I will have to learn about lapping in the honing forum. I'm very fond of the spyderco stone because of my experience with the sharpmaker. I can get my pocket knife with S30V steel very sharp. In fact, if I strop in on my jeans I can shave with it. It isn't a viable option though.
Here is my knife if you're curious. It's a doug ritter RSK Mk1 EQUIPPED TO SURVIVE - Outdoors Gear, Survival Equipment Review & Survival Information

The UF is a decent finishing stone for razors IMHO, and there are some members here who uses both the fine and the ultrafine for razorhoning
