getting started
hello im kyro98! im new here and just wanted to talk about what to do to get started in straight shaving! i know there are alot of newbies with alot of questions, so i will make this as simple as i can. first i already know a fair amount about straight shaving. ive been to the wiki and ive researched here and on ebay and google. what i need to know is how i can get started. I guess what im asking is: is there any razors, strops, and other supplies that you would recommend for a beginer? I know its all about personal preferance, but i have a hard time finding a razor i like thats not a piece of crap. i dont really want to spend more than $50 on a razor. Im interested in solingen and dubl duck razors. they seem really nice. What would be your opinion for me as a beginer. feel free to comment and leave any links you might have to help me get started! Thank you!:tu

Welcome. Can't help you with $50 or under. You might consider buying a razor from someone on the site. I like classicshaving.com myself, that way I know what I'm getting. You'll probably need a strop too.

im just talking about a razor. i dont mind spending over that for everything but i dont want to blow tones of money on just one razor. i need a strop too and all the other basics.

USD 50 will get you a shave ready razor, but certainly not one in the best of conditions. You may simply want to place a WTB (Want To Buy) advertisement in the Classifieds and see what happens. I bought a few razors for about that price, and they are good shaver, but certainly not show pieces.
Just for the record:
- Solingen is a city in Germany, not a brand.
- A set of scales for a Dubl Duck in good condition would cost USD 50. Just the scales, mind you. Besides which, I find them utterly overrated.

hmmm.... ok that sounds good! thanks! anymore advice? what would you consider to be average price wise for a good razor?

Welcome to SRP

There is no average price for a good razor. I have one no name Solingen razor that cost me USD 15 and easily outshaves a W&B that cost USD 150. You should be able to find a good shaver for USD 50, and that is a perfectly acceptable price, unless you are looking for one that is either pretty or rare.

for another $15 you could get a brand new dovo 5/8 best qualityrazor from vintagebladesllc.com that is if you are looking for a new razor or check ebay but i wold ask a member on this site to look at it for you to see if its woth it good luck:gl:

Tony Miller strop. Castle Forbes cream. Lather will come naturally.
