definitive shave technique?

Is their a definitive shave technique for straight razors. When I search the web there are many conflicting videos out there. A point in the right direction would be appreciated

Yes, there are techniques for getting that perfect shave. In the top menu, go to Help Files, then Shaving. There are some diagrams in there that are great starting points. Once you get motions down, you can vary them to fit your face better.

Unfortunately everyone's faces are different so you are going to get many different approaches to shaving...
The one "Rule" that everyone seems to agree on is when you start out begin with the side-burn area and the cheeks and gradually work your way outward as you gain experience and confidence....

Now I was assuming that you were talking about actual blade handling techniques here if that wasn't right then please elaborate more and we will try and answer...

+1 Glen!! Everyone has there own techniques that work for them..

As has been said, it varies. As far as how to hold the blade I would say do it however feels most comfortable to you while still giving you control. I have seen/heard of many different ways to hold a blade, it also depends on what part of the face you're shaving.

Now as far as shaving technique that is just as varied. There is a barber's manual that shows some dozen different angles to shave each part of the face. That is well and fine assuming your hair all grows down in one direction, which is usually not the case. It's best to start slow, do the cheeks with your straight and finish the face with whatever method you currently use. I would recommend that as soon as the stubble starts coming in methodically rub your face to feel the different directions your hair grows in from. It's like a beard map and is very useful in creating your own personal shave technique/directions.
