Round 4 I think

I've gotten to the point where I don't bleed. The fat part of my cheeks are smooth, but my jaw bone is real rough. I've tried shaving with and against the grain. Any thoughts as to why I can't get a smooth shave on my jaw bone?

After shaving my cheeks I will stretch them upwards pulling the skin along the jawbone up as well. then I will shave that area while it is off the jawline. Hope this helps.

+1 on stretching the skin, this was what made me get a smooth jawline.

Not sure I can really visual your problem but, the jawline would need an ever changing series of angles if your thinking of it as wtg or atg.

What I do is contort my hand such that the blade is running the length of my jaw bone and thus I fixed all my jaw bone area challenges in one fell swoop.

It is easier said then done though.

It might have to do with the direction of the grain of your beard at and below the jawline.

Some people, like me, have a beard that runs north to south above the jaw but west to east below the jaw. If the grain is doing something crazy in your problems areas, you're likely to have trouble getting BBS there.

yea some guys cut themselves so much when they're learning they don't have any blood left so they don't bleed.

My beard runs down and towards my ears just under the jawline. I have tried many times to get BBS on that part of my face but find that it is not worth it. The closest I have come to getting all of those whiskers is to shave with the razor moving from my ears towards my chin, which is ATG. Every time I try this, the whiskers are gone, but the face feels very abused.

For me, the risk is not worth the reward. Maybe I'll try again in another couple of months.

Ihave the same problem and as far as I can tell , there is not much you can do about it, people see your face more than they do your neck, so I just let it be.

I have this same problem. Stretching does very little to get the area of which you speak. Actually, I think it is the concave just below the top of jaw, at least in my case. The ATG I need to get in there means the blade has to be up and down, where the concave is side to side. I hesitate to throw this concept out, because slicing danger is VERY high. “Don’t try this at home” Here goes – Stretch as much as possible. Place the blade in the concave, parallel to the concave. Draw up towards the jaw. As you draw up, angle slightly and slice just barely against the draw, essentially scything against the whiskers. Everything they tell you not do here. But it gets me cleaner than any other method and I don’t get cut assuming I am very careful. Again, you are in the danger zone here, be careful! Another thing to try – after you are finished with the actual shave and dried off, you can get a hyper stretch around the bad areas and shave them with super short but highly localized strokes. I do this dry and it gives me the best results. Soap seems to not help at all in this case.
