Welcome Matt! The biggest part of this is to educate yourself about the whole deal as there's lots to know about razors, hones, strops, brushes, etc. Check out my Honing How To page on the website.
Welcome aboard Matt - and good luck with keeping this hobby cheaper than your other one!!! :roflmao
Cheaper hobby ... HA! :D

To put it into perspective, the engine for my pickup cost almost $20,000. That would have to be one hell of a razor spree ;)
Welcome, Matt!
As long as you qualified the "cheaper" reference to being cheaper than working on your cars, then I guess you are safe. "Cheaper" is a relative term and in relation to enhancing cars you are probably OK, but the various addiction disorders that evolve from wet shaving do not usually make it necessarily cheaper in general.
Enjoy the forum and the journey that is straight shaving.
Oh yes, I certainly don't think the hobby is inexpensive in general, just less so than my cars. I've already got my eye on a few pieces, and I can see how it could get expensive in a hurry ;)
