Check the classifieds.Lots of good stuff available.
Depending on your budget and whether you would like a new razor, either the classifieds or the vendors that sponsor SRP should have a razor for you. Normally people recommend a 5/8 or so blade of medium hollow with a round point for the first razor. Tony Miller's strops have a great reputation. One suggestion that I hear over and over is not to get a great strop because it is easy to get it dented as you learn. People in this forum swear by Norton hones 4k/8k combo. I have a Chinese 12k that I intend to use for touch ups on my razors but I have not worked on it yet. I am sure that people here will tell you a lot about hones. Now, I am not sure of what kind of traveling your are going to be doing but if you travel by plane, please bear in mind that you would have to check baggage. I normally avoid that as much as possible for a number of reasons.
Al raz.
just get a Dubl Duck.
Get a double arrow off ebay, cheap and not bad.
i would check the classifieds for a starter set i think kenrup sells them unless you are going to be gone for several months at a time i would not worry about getting a set of traveling stones if there is such a thing. you will only need to hone your razor every 2- 6 months. i dont know why codtd said to just get a dubl duck yes they are great razors but they are a bit expensive and like all razors they require stropping and honing for just starting out look at the starter kit it will have a shave ready razor, strop and brush you can always get better equipment once you master the basics :gl:
NOT EXPENSIVE!!
I'm looking for a carbon blade with out all the gold inlaid fancy ass logos etc.
I want a blade that will hold an edge for a while, and NO PRE-BAN IVORY HANDLE!!! etc. plastic is fine.
I'm hoping to pay $45-50.
and what does 5/8 9/16 mean?
as far as creams go I've seen plenty of it where I live.
thanks guys
Check the classifieds, 5/8 inches is the distance from the spine to the edge, its the size of the blade,
