Hi guys,
I just ordered a razor from the classified ads (a Dovo "Special"), thanks to the advise of some of the members here. Now I'm looking into strops. A strop that has caught my eye is an Illinois strop over at classicshaving.com. It mainly caught my attention because of the price as I am a college student. It consists of two parts, a leather strop and a linen strop. Is this a considerable buy? Are there other suggestions?

I have one of those and like it.
Funny you should ask! I was just advising a member that the best bang for his buck was the Illinois razor strop #127! My personal favorite is the #361which is similar to the #127 but without leather handles!
There is high praise for Tony Miller strops here:

but the Heirloom Starter/Travel strop doesn't seem to be available right now.

I have the #127 and have been satsified with it...
I've always used #127's and they work just fine.
I am very fond of my Tony Miller strop but the Illinois is a nice strop too.
These strops are rough finished instead of smooth! Many members here love them but I am not certain that would be the best choice for a beginner! could be wrong though.Quote:
