I JUST received my nw Dovo 5/8 faux tortoise special from SRD.
I want to go to sleep right now so I can get up and shave!!! its like christmas!
It states it was 'professionally sharpened' - does that mean its shave ready, or do I need to strop it before use?
I cant get a HHT to work, but some arm hairs 'popped' when I ran it over my arm...
advice would be great

Yeap, it is shave ready for sure. Most likely honed by Lynn. I think that you are not supposed to strop it the first time around. Do not pay too much attention to HHT because it is very subjective, shave with it instead. That should be a much better test of its shave readiness.

I think one reason HHT is so unreliable is that you have to have just the right amount of finesse to make the test work, and the correct hair. That takes time. Shave first, it’s more fun.
There is a reason it's called "shave-ready", not "HHT-ready"! ;)
eventually you will find a test that works for you, for me the hht never worked with my hair but would work fine with my ex's hair, but what does work for me is if it pops hairs on my arm generally it is shave ready to me, for you that may also work or maybe the thumbpad test or something else but remember those are just preliminary test, shaving is the final exam and the only one that matters

I always makes me smile when you guys try the tests on a "shave ready" razor before you even try shaving with it....
Those tests are used while honing a razor, the only test that counts when you order/buy a "shave ready" razor is the shave test....

I gotta admit, I'm guilty of that. Not to see if it's really "shave ready", but to see exactly how the tests should feel on a truly shave ready razor. I do the HHT using the exact same method I use on my self-honed razors, shave a bit of arm hair, and also do the "trimming the hedges" arm hair test. This really gives me a feel for how my stuff should do on these tests before I take it to the face.Quote:
