Default just did first left handed shave/soap melting questions

i just did my first left handed shave and it went really well, i want to be able to shave with both hands i just had to work up the confidence first. i took my time obviously and its looking good, as ive mentioned recently im growing out my beared so im currently only shaving my neck area.

ok for my question... say i want to get a puck of shaving soap to fit a certain container. how can i melt that soap down safley to do so. im sure its pretty easy, i just dont want to go ahead and do it just incase im wrong

Good job on the left handed shave--I'm still scared to try it. Good on you!

As for your question, if the soap is glycerin based (TGQ, Van Der Hagen, Col. Conk, etc.) you can put it in the container you want it to fit, and put it in the microwave. Give it a few short (5-10 SECOND bursts) until it melts. DON'T over heat it, it'll boil and you'll ruin it. You can also use a double boiler, it's a bit safer and sometimes microwaving can harm scents, so it might be better.

A tallow based soap, like Tabac or MWF, will not melt--don't try it, you'll ruin it. You can grate it down with a cheese grater and then press it down into the container you want it to fit. You might need to add a few drops of water to soften it.

cool thanks for the advice. for me to not try to shave left handed would be dumb, because im what some people would consider ambidextrous...sp? meaning i write right handed, brush my teeth right handed, but my left hook is my hardest punch, i play hockey, golf and baseball left handed. so on and so forth. so i might as well utilize what ambi skills i have for shaving

also. ive got a double boiler going right now...i dont own a microwave. in its place i have a toaster oven =)

Double-boiler is the way to go.

You can always take something out of the double-boiler that doesn't melt. But if you use the micro-wave on these, you'll wish you hadn't...

If they don't melt, chop/grate 'em up and press them into whatever container you want to use.
