soaps vs. shave soap
This is my first post, I have been learning quite alot here. Thanks to you all.
lI have just purchased a straight razor and I finally think I can get a decent shave w/ it. I will be trying different shave soaps and creams but, why not use some of the normal face and glyceryn soaps out there. Is there a diference between shaving specific soaps and these?

the regular face soaps generally do not provide good lubrication.
nothing wrong to try and see for yourself - it may work well for you.

The glide, shave soaps are designed around letting the razor glide along the face....

Not to hijack the thread but I've been using Tabac (which I love), the only other soap I have used was Col. Conk which is good but it's not Tabac. What testimonials can I get on Proraso (soap), I've heard it's kind of gummy. Some people love it, others aren't impressed...

From a one month guy to another newbie the shave soap is like comparing apples and oranges as far as working well. Shave soap is so much better there is no comparison.
A good strop is a big must also.
