Transport question...

Transportation of the strop has been a question in my mind the past few weeks. I am about to deploy in about a month or so and I'm wondering if there is a certain way I should store the strop i.e. roll it like a belt or try and keep it straight? How do you guy transport yours?

This is probably an Italian thing, but stores here in Modena have long, thin plastic bags to put your wet umbrella in when you're shopping. I put my strop in one of these to keep in dry in case something liquid breaks in my suitcase and then I lay it in the bottom under stuff that will keep it flat. Don't roll it up because the curves will be hard to get out.

That might depend on the type of deployment and where you are going. You could mail it to yourself in a tube or long box if you can do without it for a while.

This can be a great idea. Some of my traveling jobs I would pack everything except a change of clothes in a large box. I would mail this large box to the hotel or job I was going to, no problem. Much easier getting through airports too.

Yep. Whenever i deploy i mail myself pretty much everything i need and only take a 72 hour bag and a few other things.

Also save your shipping receipts you can claim them after your there for 30 days on your accrual voucher. (they do this because its cheaper for them to pay for you shipping stuff APO/FPO than having to pay for the extra luggage fee's)

They do have new rules though, if your shipping to yourself from there they charge you now. (it used to be free, apo to apo since it never touches the civi mail system) So when you go to leave have a buddy mail it for you.

That's a very good idea. I have a long, probably 28" poster tube I can put it in then roll the tube up in my sleeping pad and attach it to my MOLLE pack. Or just attach the tube to my backpack so the strop doesn't grow "legs" and walk off. Thanks guys for all your ideas. I can't wait till my stuff gets here.

You might be able to stick it between the pack and the frame if its a molle.
