I often see a notch that looks filed into the end of razors. I often see they are called barber's notches. I have searched all over SRP for why they exist or any history of them but couldn't find it can anyone tell me what they know about them.

I'm new also, but I had found this Section 5 - 4, Type of Tip/Point... - Badger & Blade which indicates that the notch is taken out for maneuverability in tight areas such as around the nostris and ears. I have no idea how true it is.
I also found this http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ats-point.html which seems to point to a different purpose.
And then this one which seems to be the most in depth discussion with all sorts of ideas Is there any function to the "Barber's notch?" - Badger & Blade
We have covered this topic many times here. I had a conversation with an old barber last year and he advised that the main reason for the notch was that it made it easier to open up the razor for use.
Have fun,
