Are these razors worth the price?

Hi!

I have bought two razors from auction ("Bengall" and "Timor, Hamburg Ring 306 Giesen & Forsthoff"),
but I want more. It's like I'm becoming addicted or something. :D

Well anyway, here's the actual issue...

I Found these three razors from an auction site. They are sold separately. Is any of them worth the money I might be able to buy them, and do they seem easy to restore?
What's your opinion. Help me out, I'm trying to acquire some cheap used razors to start a collection with, and learn honing once I can afford to buy some stones and a strop.

I'd appreciate any help you can give me on the subject.

There isn't a single razor there that wouldnt sell for twice those prices.
Cleaned up and honed they could fetch quadruple or even more!

I think they are worth about that much. The last one might be a few bucks too much, but nothing I'd worry about.

I wouldn't even consider those needing restoration, just cleaning and honing.

Of course, they can always be duds.

Heljestrand is one of my favorite makers. I have a half dozen or so and all are excellent. The other two look good as well. I think they would make a good rotation once sent out and honed by a honemiester.

If AFDavis has managed to talk you out of these, believe me when I say there will be guys standing in line for those razors at those prices if they knew where to get them.

Get 'em! Those are great prices for some good looking razors.

However, I would suggest you practice honing on something else besides any of those. Buy yourself a cheap Wapi (you'll find links to places to buy one in the forum), or some messed up ebay special and practice.

Although they're cheap, they each have a decent collectors value, and it would be a crime to mess any of them up.

All three of them appear to be in really nice condition and won't need restoration.

They all seem to be on the narrow side, when you're learning to strop, narrow blades require greater attention to prevent the spine from rising and rolling the edge.

I'd reiterate what others have said and not try to learn how to hone with these or your Hamburg, you can get an $11 Double Arrow for that.

I'd say they are all 5/8's except the heartring which appears to be a 4/8's that would be a guess though since I am not holding the razors in my hands!

All are great brands, at least judging from the examples I have. Worth is relative, of course. A new razor will cost you many times these prices and often won't be as good, at least not in my opinion.
From what I remember on ebay last time I was looking these will sell for more there. But the market in Europe is different.

Maybe I try to get them all if the prices don't rise too much.
And I think I'll take your word on not learning to hone with them.

I'll just have to wait until I can afford to buy proper hones and cheap practise razor.

I guess it wouldn't be wise to let the opportunity pass, to get these razors for prices like these.

there are always more razors, i don't think you have to worry about that.

if money is an issue buy just one and send it to be honed. even if you have the money to buy a hone you will likely need quite some time before you learn how to use it. it helps a lot to have a reference point where you need to get your edge, otherwise you'll needlessly suffer a lot of painful shaves.
