How do I get my new razor shave ready for cheap?

I have a fairly decent razor (I believe), it's a J.A. Henckels Twin Beauty, but I made the mistake of buying it not shave-ready. I know I could buy a hone and a strop from here for a hefty price, read up on it and try it myself, but is it worth it? Can I find a place to get it shave-readied and then buy a strop and the pastes to keep it keen? I'm having a hard time finding a place here in Montreal with any advice or products. It's mostly stores with pretty young girls working there (which I normally don't mind), but they basically have these razors as show items that no one buys, so I'm looking to buy online if it's cheap.I'm a poor grad student so I'm looking to spend the least amount possible. You could send it to one of our members here who specialize in honing. They're all very good, and can be found in the classifieds sections on this site, under "Member Services". But, since you mentioned you're in Montreal, I suggest sending your razor off to floppyshoes, since he's somewhere in Quebec. I sent him some razors in the past, and you will not be dissapointed!

You will need a strop though. Stropping before every shave is important, so I would look into getting one. I know you don't want to spend money, but you would regret it if you don't get one.

I just got my strop my classicshaving.com, but if you want a top quality strop, get a Tony Miller strop. But, you'll get along just fine with a cheaper one if you don't feel like spending much money.

Dan (floppyshoes) used to hone in Montreal, but apparently he's moving and not doing it until May. So I guess your best option is to mail it to US. It's relatively quick a week to two each way and a couple of bucks for postage each way.
Or plead with one of the other resident canadians to take pity on you and hone your razor, I shall not name names, since I'm already on thin ice and don't want to risk the great northern wrath....
