RAZOR EDGE.
Hi folks,
Firts of all, sorry for my English but it's not my mother language. I have two questions: In some publications I have read, say that you need at least two open razors to daily use, because the edge of the razor must be recovered for at least 24 or 48 hours after shaving. It's that true?
And for the second: Have you to hone a razor when it is usually stropped with red paste first and then with black one ? Thanks so much.

Back in the day the old time barbers used their razor all day long and day after day. I don't buy the resting argument.

The 24 hour rest period is very useful if you have to justify purchasing more razors to your wife. Other than that I believe it is an old wives tale.
As for your second question. I would advise you get your razor honed by a honemeister. Then all you need to worry about is stropping before your shave. Eventually the razor will get a little dull. What I do in this situation, and I think many others also do, is use a balsa wood strop with diamond paste. Balsa wood strops are very cheap and easy to make.
And also, welcome to this wonderful world of straight razor shaving.

Welcome to SRP ! Personally I like to keep one strop clean of any pastes. I also have a strop with paste which I use if I feel the need. Nice to have the choice depending on the condition of the edge.
Here in the SRP Wiki you will find an abundance of information on all things relating to straight razor shaving. :gl:
