Hello,
I am new to straight razor shaving but not too new to DE shaving. I have had quite a bit of DE experience (most of it over 40 years ago) and think I do pretty well with prep work, lathering, etc. I did my fourth straight razor shave tonight and I must say I am still a long way off from getting it right! Had to skip a day after the third shave to let a cut heal up. No major wounds after tonight but my face looks like a lawn mowed by a drunk -- lots of missed spots.
No questions right now. Just saying hello.
I am known by my full name "Robert Paulsen" over at B&B but since I am venturing into the world of straight razor shaving thought I'd better sign up here. I am using the same avatar in case people from B&B are active here and used recognizing me by it. He is Ben from the old computer game Full Throttle.
I watched Lynn Abram's DVD. Lots of good info there and some amazing razors!
Oh, yes, my straight razor starter kit came from RupRazor and consists of his Double Arrow 6/8 carbon steel razor and his very simple Filly strop. They seem appropriate to learn on. I am able to cut through a "hanging hair" even after a few shaves. My strop technique gets better every day although my actual shave terchnique hasn't shown much improvement, but I have only "completed" (if that's not too strong a word) my 4th shave.
Well, hello again. I will keep my eye on things here and continue my practice
