Paddle Strop Questions

Hey Everyone!
I've been wet shaving for about three years and straight shaving for six weeks or so. Things have been going well, for the most part. I still have the remnants of some serious gashes, but Neosporin seems to be taking care of it well.

I have recently acquired a two-sided TM paddle strop with 1.0 pasted on one side and .5 on the other. My question is, how do I know when to use it? What clues will tell me that the razor needs a touch up on the pasted strop? How often will this need to be done? How will I know when it's time to hone? I have read that 10-15 laps on each is pretty much all I'll need to freshen up the edge.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

well, the answer is when the razor doesn't cut quite the same anymore despite stropping on linen and leather. I'd use just the 0.5 side, few strokes, should do it, no pressure whatsoever.
it really depends on the razor, your beard, your preparation, your technique - the numbers vary a lot.

Thanks for the thought. I gave it a whirl last night and I think it made a positive difference. Anyone else have any ideas to share on the topic?

Just be aware that, though pastes are good for multiple touch-ups, eventually they will round the bevel on your razor, and sooner or later you'll have to take it to the stones.
