Hey guys, wondering if someone could give me some advice on a straight edge I could buy. Carbon fiber or stainless steel? Round our square point?
Thanks.

If you wear a beard I would say go for a Spike, Spanish, or French point. If you shave full face I would go with a 6/8 round point up to 8/8.
Then again....that Boker Celebrated just haunts me!!!!

Id stay away from the carbon fiber blade and stick to either the carbon steel or the stainless. But then again thats just me.;)
I have been straight shaving only since Nov., but one thing I learned is that it is better to stay away from a full hollow ground (thinner blade) when starting out because the razor will pull more than others. IMO this will make it harder to get the technique down. For me, I wish I had started on a heavier blade, because it takes a while to get the hang of it. I would also recommend a round point.
Bladerunner or Nun2sharp,
Have either of you heard any feedback about this razor, any thoughts, just looking at it because it is a cheaper Dovo.
DOVO Best Quality Straight Razor – 5/8
thanks for the feedback.
Can not go wrong with a Dovo. Period. Buy one prehoned by one of the members here. SAFE!
What is a myth? About the thinner blade pulling more? Not a myth for me. I have a Dovo(Col. Conk) that seems to be a heavier blade and it doesn't pull as much. I have seen recent threads where others have said the same. I must admit, though, I am no expert, just saying what I have experienced so far.
carbon steel sharpens easier but must be well taken care of to prevent rust stainless is a little harder to hone but it is stainless. i own spike and round points but prefer the round i also went carbon steel to keep it true old school as long as it is quality steel you will get a good shave. once the rad sets in you will buy other styles of blades i started with 6/8 full hollow carbon steel :gl:
Welcome to SRP.
Carbon Steel is the way to go. 5/8th's is probably the most popular size. 6/8ths will catch more soap or cream as you shave, but not that much, That's the size I like. Check out Vintage bladesllc.com or classic shaving .com You can select to have the razor professionally honed before it's shipped. The classified are also an excellent source for razor if you can actually find one. They sell as fast as their put up. There was one Dovo on there the last time I looked. For your first razor, your probably better off getting it at one of the sites recommended here.

I can vouch for Dovo myself. Great razor and not a bad price either. I agree on buying the first from Straight Razor Designs. The price you pay there including honing is better than the other online retailers as far as I've seen. If you want vintage look no further than the classifieds section here. Good luck! Jeremy-
My second razor was a DOVO. It's still a great shaver.
You caught it :)
