So this morning, while having my best straight shave yet I hit the blade of my Wapi on the faucet. Nicked it real good. Mad doesn't quite explain it.

Ouch, that sucks. :cen
you learned quite cheaply i must say.
I manage ok with a wide open sink (more bowl than a standard sink). I fill it half way with hot water and turn it off then use the bowl to do all my rinsing, cleaning, rewetting, etc.

I hate it when that happens...
Do you think it is still reparable?
I've dinged a couple of my razors just a tiny bit and I got one razor with a couple of minor chips missing and they all honed out pretty good..
Good luck..
Maarten
been there, done that. good excuse to buy a hone.:gl:
honestly, i have read quite a few stories where as new shavers we did that with their 1st good razor. sucks waiting to get that thing back.
going on a few years now and have not done that again though.
vgod
Did the same on my first razor, a Wapi. :gaah:
Dude,
Sorry to hear about that. It is an important safety tip for me as I start down the SR shaving path this week.

You are SO not alone. I know that pain far too well. Fortunately, I did it after my second (and third?) razor had been purchased shave-ready, so I just had to strop and go with a second razor. It was, however, my nicest razor at the time.
Since then, I've been much more careful. And so will you.
Don't sweat it man, we all do it at one point. The good news is, the likelihood of it happened just went down dramatically with you doing it. I think I did some version of that about 3 times. I haven't done it since then, so there's definitely hope!
I do the same.Quote:
try not to go near the sink while shaving. I have a small towel on shoulder or edge of sink to clean lather from razor. Then I only have to miss the faucet once while cleaning when finished shaving
Dsburden, ya I did the same thing on my first razor, also a Wapi.
I honed it out though, it basically bent the edge slightly. A few laps on some lapping film and it was good as new.
cheers

Yep - welcome to the club, Jeremy. My variation was to bump the faucet with the spine, dropping the razor and bending the edge at the toe when it hit the bottom of the sink. :gaah: It honed out just fine, though.

That I learned cheaply is definitely true. 60 dollar razor, cost me about 10 bucks to have it shipped to kenrup and back to me thanks to his 90 day hone warranty. Awesome service. I absolutely learned how delicate these blades are and that carelesness will not answer. You really gotta be on your Ps and Qs as the saying goes.
Rinsing under the faucet is pretty risky. I think most of us have dinged our razor at least once, and it's not a nice feeling. Not to mention the pain in the rear to re-hone.
Even rinsing in a sink full of water, or a bowl, isn't all that much safer.
The safest way is to use a towel, or better yet, one of these:

I wish they were available in a different color though. Black would be nice.
Nice shave area, TomSD.
I also rinse in the sink. It gives me one more way to check the moisture content of the lather. The sink is pretty deep and I keep the blade in the deepest part, moving it in a small area.
