getting started
I realize I have made my first newbie mistake. I did not research what to do I just bought the first thing available. Well 12$ mistake learned. Now to keep from making the second I would appreciate some help. I need a good blade well sharpened and also some information on which one will keep me from pulling the hair out by the roots on what is apparently a baby face. I also need a strop and would appreciate if someone could keep me from buying something else i dont need. I now have a 12 dollar pocketknife that looks like a razor and would like to avoid that mistake again. Thank you for your help.

Once you've read the links Berlin posted & you're ready to buy, it's worth checking the classifieds. There's a quick turnover of shave ready blades in there. Just make sure it is sold as shave ready.
Good luck!

+1 on the classifieds. Bought my first shave-ready straight from gugi through the classifieds here, and I couldn't be happier.

I'd have to agree with the previous posters about checking out the classifieds. More often than not they will come shave ready. I also bought my first razor through the classifieds. There is also a ton of useful information about getting started in most of the threads in the Newbie section. Also don't be afraid to ask. There's plenty of people here that are extremely helpful.
Enjoy,
