there is a lot of excellent expertise in the old threads and by guys who have spent years researching this and putting it in practice.

Stainless steel is very easy to maintain, but carbon steel is a "B". Robert Williams advised me to use Flintz to remove stains and use car wax or Flitz gun and metal wax to prevent rust and stain. Camelia oil, olive oil, gun oil, mineral oil any kind of light oil is also good to prevent rust. It is very hard to keep steel in a wet environment such as in shaving situation.
