Shaving will never be the same.

I have a few shaves down and I have made an observation. For the first time in my entire 20 years of shaving(since 12), I have no razor bumps and the skin on my cheeks are clear as can be. Why didn't anyone tell me this was a perk of SR? I am alternating 2 antique Krus Bros until a Dovo purchase and they are sharp for the 1st pass wtg. I was brave and went atg for the 2nd pass w/no problems. I still did not get as close as an atg w/ a disposable. I have alot to learn about applied pressure when shaving. Just wanted to share the gifts that I have been given.

Don't worry, eventually you'll get it smoother. I've been shaving since christmas, and I'm just now getting to where it is as close as a mach 5 on my kneck. But my every hair on my face grows a different direction.

for me, XTG is usually enough, and doing 2 XTG passes in place of the ATG always leaves me much more comfortable. this is just me though as there are MANY out there that always do ATG. i think the XTG is an important pass though. for me it is essential to take it step by step or comfort goes out the window.

sounds like you have started out well though, good job.

one reason why it may not have been mentioned to you that the bumps and stuff will go away, is that it isn't true for everyone, i think anyway. everyone reacts differently depending on your skin type, and to say that you are oily, normal or dry is a bit limiting as there are soooo many variances with skin type. for the most part i only read positive reviews though so maybe it should have been mentioned :rock:

I am starting to find, lately especially, that when getting a really nice shave I have done the following:

Abandoned the WTG, XTG,ATG rule that is strictly used with a DE razor. For example, with a straight, things can not be so "to the book".

I pay more attention to doing little XTG strokes in a variety of different ways for particular parts of my face. When I pay more attention to this step the shaves are amazing. Then I can follow with a light ATG.

The razor bumps thing is to do with the fact you're not cutting below the skin (I think) and the skin thing is due to the exfoliation properties of using a brush and also the razor it's self. Good stuff isn't it?

You will get closer, my checks and outer sections of my neck have pretty much got the same strokes since I started, one WTG one ATG. I found that over a few weeks I tailored the passes in the central part of my face, and really it gets a different treatment every shave. Depending on any number of factors.

It was a pretty natural progression, one day you'll try something and think 'Well damn, I'm doing that again!'
