i have read somewhere and seen on a video by a member on SRP that they prep their strop with 440 grit wet dry sand paper (if i remember right). Is this supposed to be done with new strops or just on a strop that has used a good bit and is polished from use? I would also appreciate any suggestions on properly preping the strop before i use it for the first time. Thanks in advance.

What kind of a new strop are you talking about? I
would say that most manufacturers out there are
selling strops that are ready to use out of the box
and require only running your palm over them to
maintain the quality of the leather.

The top quality one shouldn't need any more than has already been suggested. Others may need more work.

Surely, if you roll a strop that's been treated with paste on one side, it'll contaminate the untreated side? I don't think it's ideal to roll a strop anyway. Mine was laid out flat in my luggage when i travelled with it.
I am gonna chalk that oversight to being the FNG and just not being that observent when i was buying the strop.
