Under the chin.

I love my straight razors. There is nothing like the feel of a good straight razor shave. I have two razors, a Dovo, and a Genco. Both shave very well...in most places.

I am embarrased to say this, but I have a problem with shaving my neck. Evidently, my beard is extra-tough there, or something. No matter how many passes I make, or how many different directions I go, I always have just the slightest bit of fine stubble left when I feel ATG. Everywhere else gets baby-bottom smooth, but this one area on my upper neck seems to be a problem area. It is not noticable to anyone, and is not unpleasant feeling, but I know I have a spot that is not as good as the rest, and it bugs me.

Anyone else ever have a problem with this? Any suggestions?

If you are like me. the hairs grow left and right left. so i have to attack at various angles.

I have found the problem for me was not the razor at all its was the soap. I switched over from soap to a cream which allowed the blade to get more off.

Are you sure it is stubble and not just rough skin? If you spend, or have in the past spent, a significant amount of time out in the weather, your skin is not going to be BBS no matter how closely you shave.

Can't agree. I spend much of my working life out in the weather and I get BBS consistently. It's a stubble growth thing. Keep at it, Gigmaster, you'll get there. In my experience different razors make a difference too. Once you get it with one, the rest more or less follow. It's a question of finding the hollows (in your neck), correct stretching (lessening the hollows in your neck) and mapping the grain. All that's just IME, :gl:.

Sorry, can't agree with you here. The fact that your skin texture was not affected by weather exposure does not alter the fact than mine was. Maybe you were more effective with the use of sun screen, or maybe your skin is just tougher than mine. And I can assure you that it is not stubble on my face and neck. I know this because I have actually tried a chemical depilalatory just to check. I have also experimented with multiple passes in all directions and none of these trials improves the smoothness beyond what I get with a well executed first pass.

My grain also goes from (my) left to right under the chin. It is tough to tackle. I have to use a left-handed scythe stroke to get it XTG. As for the weather-worn skin, I'm an office jockey so I have good skin. Just a weird-growing beard. I still can't really get that spot perfectly yet but I'm so close.

Mine's left to right, but going down, so it's about 45 degrees. It's the devil to get the razor to do a true ATG, so i make do with stretching ATG which lifts up the stubble enough to get close enough for my liking.

Maybe we just have different skin (as you said) and maybe the weather has nothing to do with it (as you seem reluctant to say). Never used sunscreen on my face (skin too sensitive), so it's not that either. I'm going to leave this one here.
