I guess the advantage with the wider strop is that you do not have to make the "X" pattern in order to strop the full width of the blade.
With the narrower strop you will need to move the razor in an "X" pattern as you move up and down. IE; You start with the tip of the blade not on the leather and as you move the blade you slide it diagonally across the strop as well so that the tip of the blade will be on the leather at the end and the heel will be off it. This ensures even stropping across the whole cutting edge. There are videos of this on Youtube and explanations with pictures on the Wiki site also.
The wider strop will allow you to put the whole blade on at once, so you will only have to move directly up and down the length of the strop. I guess that would be an "l" shape..! :) This will probably make the whole stropping experience a bit easier at the start, so if theres not too much difference in price its probably benficial to get the wider one.
