Thread Tools and Subscribed Threads

I've posted this a long time ago and thought it deserves to be brought up again for anyone who isn't aware of it. At the top of the original post you will see a tool bar that has a button named "Thread Tools" If you click on it a menu appears offering the option to "subscribe to this thread".

If you click on that a window appears with a prompt repeating the command and when you click on that the thread will be placed in your "User CP" (control panel) an can be accessed there until you choose to unsubscribe. The User CP is in the tool bar at the top of the SRP page just under the logo.

I currently have over fifty subscribed threads with pertinent information that I can go to when I need to reread a thread on a specific topic. A really great resource for saving threads that are of particular interest. :tu

And don't forget you can view your subscriptions here (accessed via the UserCP's left-side menu)

There you can create different subscription folders to sort your subscribed threads for easy reference. For example, maybe you want to contribute to two different wiki articles and you are gathering helpful information in the forum - you can create a subscription folder for each of the threads you think you might want to use and have them all in one place that way for future reference. Or maybe you like to separate your subscribed honing threads from stropping threads. Or maybe you are researching razor brands for the brands database in the wiki - you can create folders for each brand you dig up info on for culling and consolidation. These are just some ideas

Explore all the menus you have available - there are lots of little forum goodies like this da bomb (AKA dwessell PBUH) has granted us

This is as good a thread as any to post this question I have that has been bugging me for a while. The multi-quote option? How does it work? I realise I'm just being dumb, but I can't for the life of me figure it out or find a place on the site that explains it. Please, somebody, put me out of my ignorant misery.

I am pretty sure it is currently broken here. You should be able to select whatever posts you want to quote by checking the little boxes, and then clicking multi-quote and the resulting edit window would paste in all the quotes from the posts you selected

Multi Quote works fine, so far as I can tell.. I've tested in new builds of Chrome, IE, and FF all on XP. You press the MQ button on each post that you want to respond to. And on the final one, click the quote button.

Hit the multi-quote button on whichever you want to multi quote, and then hit reply, or just "quote" on the last one.

ok now it works

[edit - it worked just now in this thread, but not in other threads. I am still testing. PS this is the first time it ever worked for me on SRP]
[edit2 - now it just worked in the thread that it did not work in two minutes ago. This is so annoying it's fun :)]

windows XP service pack 35712586
firefox 3.5.2

after selecting the posts using the multiquote button and choose quote, I only get the quote for the post from which I clicked quote. If I simply use reply instead, I get no quotes at all

dwessell, I think this might be related to the thanks button issue, where sometimes the forum recognizes that I've pressed it, and sometimes it doesn't

I just restarted the browser. the first time I tried the MQ, it didn't work. I clicked "back", tried it again and it worked

Funny. Now it doesn't work again. And now when I press quote I don't even get the quote of the post I'm pressing the quote button in

I can't do the multi quote thing either. Running Linux Mint with KDE desktop manager and Mozilla Firefox.

It seems to work for me in firefox. I just clicked "multi-quote" for for Alan's post and the "quote" option for hoglahoo's post. I've used it in the past too. Hmm... Another forum I'm a member of has all sorts of broken things, though. This one works quite well. Yay SRP.

I've just attempted to thank both of you with the thank button, but it only works if I open the url that the thanks button links to in a new window or tab. I wonder if this is a related issue

I've not had any issues with the thanks or the single quote. Only the multi thing. If I really want to do it I right click reply and open in a new tab. Then I copy and paste whichever quotes I want into one reply and close the other tabs. More trouble than it is worth in most cases. :)

Those of you that are h aving this MQ issue. Can you please post your specific Firefox version? It seems to be related to just a few versions of FF.

I have suffered this issue on this forum for at least three different Firefox versions

I have no issues with multiquote on IE 7.0

Update:

I use Firefox 3.5.2 on Windows XP and on Ubuntu er... whatever the latest animal is.

The multiquote and thanks always work everytime on Firefox via Ubuntu.

However they fail together and they work together on Firefox via Windows XP for me. When thanks is functioning, mq is working too. When thanks is not working, mq is also not working. I don't know why sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, but maybe that tidbit can help.

Just curious Lee, if you were to find they had ceased to work on XP, if a reboot wouldn't correct it at least temporarily ? Then it would be assumed to be your XP rather than the server wouldn't it ?

hang on, I'll see if I can replicate this on some other machines

In the meantime, multiquote has never worked for me on SRP. Now, the thanks worked fine for several months. Then *someone* made some site updates earlier this year and since then the thanks button only works occasionally for me. Reputation buttons as well. I've rebooted probably 100 times since then. I was not alone with the sometimes working sometimes not working rep and thanks buttons.

Another note: I have no problem with multiquote on any of the other VB forums I visit

XP is probably the root cause here, but I don't think it's my particular XP that is acting up. Maybe it's a firefox extension I have that is goofing things up? Maybe I should uninstall them all, reinstall firefox, reboot, reformat, etc, and see if that helps

Before going to that much trouble, just create a new user in Firefox and use that one without installing any extras.
