That sounds good in theory, but as it's such a cheap strop ($15-20?), it's almost not worth the shipping cost to have it exchanged. Besides, I'd be stropless for two weeks.

A brush I am very happy with that I think strikes a balance between price and performance is a best pure badger brush. Its soft enough, but yet still stiff enough to whip up a good lather and it holds water well. Silvertips cost more and are softer, but I am comfortable with the softness factor of the brush I have.
I started with a $7 boar brush and arghhh, I wish I never bought it. My current brush has performed so well, I see no immediate need to spend more on a brush.
Good Luck!

I recently acquired a strop on Ebay. Actually, its a belt (Brown Vintage Leather belt waist 70s Wide Hippie), 2 1/2 inches wide, and really long. With some brass rod, a brass snap hook from Lowes, and some black leather for the handle, I'm sure it'll do nicely.
And it only cost me approximately $10 for the belt.
