Shavette Recommendation(s)

I would say, stay away from shavettes and buy him a real straight.
Shavettes are about as dangerous as straight razors... so why bother start playing with an erzats ...

Yes, a shavette is a good present. This way he doesn't need to strop and can go at his own pace and come back to it anytime. The blades are stainless steel and don't need much care. The blades can go in and out of the shavette, but he should hold these and extra blades in an area that the child can't reach. They are very sharp!

I started out with a disposable straight and it still gets used when I travel and occasionally mixed in the rotation at home just to keep me versatile with different straights. I can get 4-5 good shaves with a blade. Once I moved to fixed straights, the cost went way up, but I always knew what a sharp blade should feel like and that helped me not spin my wheels stropping asking, is it sharp enough??

When friends want to try out SR, I let them use my Shavette or my other disposable with a fresh blade and when I get it back, I just throw out the old blade and put a new one in.

I have gotten my bro to use one of my straights before, he really liked it. I think he's just a no-good, lazy, punk (he's my younger brother, teasing is always held in high-regard :)) and doesn't want to mess w/ a strop, and let's face it... if you're going to be truly into straights you have to have hones too...
