Jewelers Eyepiece
Could you guys recomend a good place to get one of those jewelers eyepiece dealies to look at the edge of a blade or even a microscope for that purpose? Also is there a wiki with pictures to show what a properly honed razor should look like and of course examples of a dull edge? Also what magnification power is required?
Thanks, manonengine

Go to Radio Shack. They have both eye loops from 10x to 30x and also a small microscope from 60x - 100x. The 10x eye loop works best for just seeing the edge and bevel condition, and the microscope at 60x is great for finding microchips. I use both and they are really cheap.

+1 on Radio Shack ( They have some decent stuff for starters) My first is a 60-100X hand held with built in light (cost like 13 bucks) It works well for seeing the edge. Takes some practice but works. I'm eyeballing the usb scopes now ( I like tech stuff). Here's a link to the Shack's scopes.

Check the honing section of the wiki. Tim Zowada kindly let us use some of his imagery, to be found under bevels/edges produced by various hones. Rather impressive material.

I found this one here to be very useful. It is not as cheap as some of those they have but the optics are worth the $25.00.
