Hello everyone!
Technique aside, what difference do different razors make? Aside from the kind of metal used (stainless vs carbon steel[?]) and the intricate designs, will getting the more expensive (and popular) brands produce a significant difference from the Gold Dollar razor that I'm currently using?

quality of shave. keeping edge, sharpness of the blade etc etc. they are the differences among razor's.
Example some blades you simple cannot put shaving edge?
Oh I see ... so it's possible to get sharper razors from those!

All blades behave differently, & as long as you're not trying to shave with a butter knife, it's really down to personal preference.
It may be worth buying one or two from the classifieds & just trying them out, if funds allow. You can put them back on for what you paid, assuming they're still shave ready, & get some more. You could even try for trades. It would allow you to experience a few different grinds, steels, point, etc without amassing a huge pile of razors.
I cannot comment on your Gold Dollar, simply because I have never used one. As far as more expensive goes, I only have three that would probably fetch a significant sum when sold, and a Dovo Bergischer Löwe. I also have a few completely unknown 1930s Solingen razors. I really cannot say that the old Solingens shave any worse. Quite the contrary, one of them is one of the best razors I have ever had. I find the prices for Dubl Ducks, and Wade and Butcher razors in particular, ridiculous. There is no real value for money if you get the for the current going rate on eBay - unless, of course, you want a razors like that because you have an OCD.Quote:

The grind of the razor will make a big difference on how the blade feels. I started out will a full hollow razor, then started to wonder what a 1/4 hollow would be like, so I got one, then I started to wonder what a 1/2 hollow would be like, so I got another one... I shave with all 3 razors in rotation and like the contrast on how they feel.
