I alternated between a cartridge and an electric for too many years for me to think about. I don't remember what got me to try a real razor, but, since I have, I've not used anything else. It's wonderful, produces a great result and I'd never use anything else. I know that Mr. Gillette was only thinking of profit, but how has he conned the masses for so many years? I think it was when they decided that you needed to buy three blades in tandem that I finally said "hey, wait a minute..." What's it up to now, five blades? What a way to boost your output! Anyway, I love the single, naked blade, and I'll use it only.

It was a slow move. I got a badger brush and MWF soap on eBay. I found a straight razor in a lot of WW I BEF gear I bought early this year. I sent the razor to SRD for honing and while I waited for it to return, bought a shave ready razor from the classifieds here at SRP.
After the first shave I took the challenge to improve to the point where I could shave to a BBS finish and never touch a multi-blade razor again.
Today, I have several razors, use the same soap, swapped the badger for boar, and use Dominica Bay Rum or Ice Blue Aqua Velva. Damn, I love this!

My wife showed me and artricle in the paper about str8 shaving. The reporter interviewed a guy that did it who said that it was gaining in popularity. There were several websites given, among which were this one and badger and blade. I had always mused over trying it and decided to give it a go and not look back.
Along with the comfort and quality of the shave I am saving money on never buying disposables again. I also think it good to have an activity that you must be extremely careful with. Really develops a go slowly and carefully mindset in other areas of life.

One time too many I picked up the plastic disposable only to find that my wife or one of the girls had shaved their legs with it. That was the last straw. I had shaved with straights on and off for a number of years and knew I could do better.
