question about lather

Hi everyone,
I have a question about my lather. I've been making uberlather for about 2 months now and am very pleased with it. But sometimes it comes out very very thick. Like today I shaved around noon, it's halloween and I know I'm gonna be up late. After I'm done shaving I wipe the lather off of my brush and off the sides of the bowl and put it all in the center of the bowl. I leave it there for the next day's shave. The thing that worries me is that it is so thick I literally have to wipe it off my blade sometimes because the tap water pressure won't get it off. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. I'm very happy with the lather but am wondering if it can be better. I use Ogallala Bay rum sample puck and Bigelow's cream with some glycerin as the ingredients.

Also the lather works it's way up the handle away from the tips of the brush as I'm applying it to my face. Where it falls off in globs into the sink. I mention this because I think it might be my brush which is a hjm badger.

P.S. Quick update. It's now 930pm and I just tested my lather from noon. With a couple of drops of water from my hand I whipped the dregs of todays lather back into a shave ready state, at least for me. Good or bad?

Your lather sounds too dry to me might try adding a little more water and whipping for a longer period, it can take 1-3 minutes to build a good lather. Also if the lather is coming off in globs you can
1. scrap some lather on the bowl before applying to face
2. try using less soap/cream , your making an uber lather so are combining 2 or more cream/soaps and therfore need less of each to make normal size dollop.

and make some practice lathers. go from way too dry to a perfect lather then to runny soapy water this will help you determine how much water is required and also teach you that whipping lather takes time and when you think you have a nice lather if you stir a little more you will be surprised how much better it can become.


Saving old lather and rehydrating it is perfectly fine and will save you money in the long run.
