ok, so my second try went nicer but, still couldnt get a nice lather going and had to make several passes to get all the hair. only did right side of face from side burns to jawline, just like lynn says to do as a newbie. Any ideas why its not getting all the hair in one pass like in most videos? Could i have messed it up while stropping, Also while stropping should I hear a higher pitch sound or a dull sound? tips on making stropping go 'smoother'? :P

This is why I recommend starting with a DE. It is much less important to have great lather. Then when you really get lathering and prep down, you can upgrade to a straight. I know a lot of guys recommend just jumping in, but I am glad I started with a DE.
As far as getting all the hair, make sure you are keeping the blade flat against your face and keeping that 30ish degree angle. I also found that it really helped me to start off with a straight doing my entire face. That way I could compare parts of my face that were smooth and rough, and determine what I had done right or wrong in that particular place.
If the razor is adequate and theres nothing wrong with your stropping, if you shave right out of the shower(very good beard prep) and this is only your 2nd attempt, I would say its your technique, just a matter of time and building the skill set. It will get better. As Lynn has said its about beard reduction, not removal, it will all come in time. As for sound as the razor cuts it all depends on the beard , the steel and the grind.
