Newbie on a budget

Newbie here but have been lurking for some time now. I have just been given a small budget to venture into the world of st8 shaving. Don't laugh when you read this but the budget is $100. I know quality costs money, thats why Im here to get some pointers.

So I have been looking at THIS KIT. Obviously the razors are not the best quality and to be honest that is not my concern. The reason for that set is that I could get the strop, soap and brush at a good price. The razors will more than likely be used for photography props cause I will be browsing the classifieds here for a decent "ready-shave" one with my left over budget.

So please offer your advice on this plan, it would be greatly appreciated.


P.S. That budget is set in stone, sadly that is all I can work with. :(

I'd advise against that set. Zeepk is garbage and you're paying $46 for a mug, a cheap brush and a questionable strop.

You can get a $20 strop at RupRazor.com (The Filly). Mug you probably have in your cabinet somewhere, and you can get an inexpensive synthetic or boar brush.

+1 on the "DON'T DO IT".Zeepk is trash.You can get a real usable razor and strop from RupRazor.com for $60 and still have $40 left over for brush and soap.

The only thing this kit can actually do is halve your budget. Run away from it.

Thanks all for the quick replies. I have followed the links in the wiki and I'm surprised I will be able get what I need on such a small budget. The Tweezerman brush is out of stock but hopefully will be in soon. Gonna be placing my orders for the strop and soap tonight, now off to the classifieds! :D

Some other good starter brushes on The Gentlemen's Quarter (TGQ) website:

Boar brush there for $14, and some badger ones around $45. They have some awesome soaps and offer sample sizes for like $2 as well.

Also from the wiki, you can get some inexpensive Vulfix brushes:

There are a few regular bristle brushes (scroll down) for less than $10. For reference, that's probably the same type of brush listed in the Zeepk lot, but the Vulfix ones are much fuller and are of a reputable brand.

As they all said, run away!!!! NOW!!!! This may be a good alternative plan for you, check it out:
