Hi, I just picked up a King Cutter in great condition (expertly honed by Lynn Abrams I might add). It has some minor fading of the gold wash. What special care should I use to try to keep it intact? Will it come off, for example, if I wipe the razor too hard on a towel? Should I avoid wiping the gold wash area in general? Thanks!
it depends on the gold wash, some will wear off no matter what you use to wipe the blade with, some will stay nice and shiny.
the only way to insure it stays is to not wipe off the blade at all - you'll have to find a way to get out the lather, depending on the soap/cream you use and the quality of water you have just rinsing it may not be feasible.
if you can clean the blade with just a rinse, then finish with deionized water and air dry should do the trick.
too much trouble if you ask me, but i actually liked the faded gold wash on my vintage king cutter better than a brand new shine.
That is one reason I don't like gold wash. I treat it as gently as possible and hope for the best. If it wears there is nothing I know of to do about it. :shrug:
Actually there is a foolproof way of ensuring goldwash never wears off no matter how you clean the razor. Make sure the razor doesn't have any to begin with.
I hate gold wash. Its fine for a Sunday shaver but otherwise worthless in my opinion. Anything more than mild soap and water and it will come off.
